Priority of Service
At West Michigan Works! veterans and their spouses may qualify for priority of service and other individualized employment services. “Priority of service” means they can access services before or in place of non-veterans. West Michigan Works! also hosts veterans career advisors and/or veterans representatives at their service centers. They work directly with veterans to help identify military skills that transfer to civilian job opportunities and connect them to veteran-specific community resources.
Meet Justin
Justin is a single-father of two young boys. He is also a veteran of the Marine Corps who received a medical separation following a knee injury. Following a devastating house fire, Justin found himself homeless and jobless.
Michigan Works! staff helped Justin address some of the challenges that had been preventing him from maintaining a full-time job. Justin is now employed, in a job he loves and most importantly he has, “security for his kids.” This is his story.
