West Michigan Works! has named University of Michigan Health-West its 2024 Employer of the Year, recognizing its dedication to workforce development, innovative training programs, and commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. The announcement was made during the 2024 West Michigan Works! annual board meeting held at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park on December 9. Other award recipients include Hackley Community Care and Shelondrea Johnson, recipients of the 2025 Impact Award, and United Way of Montcalm-Ionia Counties, named 2024 Partner of the Year.

In 2024 alone, the organization secured $172,000 through the Going Pro Talent Fund to provide specialized training for new hires and apprentices. Additionally, UM Health-West is deeply involved in youth career exploration programs, such as MiCareerQuest, where they inspire students to explore in-demand healthcare careers through interactive exhibits. The organization is also committed to equitable recruitment practices, participating in evidence-based programs like the HireReach initiative and hosting implicit bias training for its staff.
