Secure Your Future with Support and Career Training
In 2018, Hunter Daniels was unemployed, severely in debt and without a plan for the future. After bouncing from house to house, he moved back in with his dad, and with encouragement from his family, Hunter went to the West Michigan Works! Service center in Muskegon.
“I was completely lost with no direction. My family sent me to Michigan Works, where my life direction has changed forever,” said Daniels.
In less than two years, Hunter went from jobless to earning his Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate. With help from West Michigan Works!, he resolved transportation issues and gained important employability and leadership skills.
Scholarships Can Make Training Affordable
Hunter also received a training scholarship to attend Muskegon Community College. In December 2019 Hunter earned a CNA certificate and was named Valedictorian of his class. He interned and is now employed with Sanctuary at McAuley, a rehabilitation, wellness and nursing care facility in Muskegon.
A shortage of certified nursing assistants has been a challenge for West Michigan Health care providers for years (CNA is one of the high-demand occupations found on the West Michigan Works! Hot Jobs List) . Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, these critical health care workers are needed more than ever. Hunter is filling a vital role at Sanctuary at McAuley. He is a true frontline warrior! He recently qualified for a Futures for Frontliners scholarship. His goal is to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.).
“I am employed with two jobs. I am a certified C.N.A. I am becoming self-sufficient. I am career-bound. I am confident in myself and my future… I was a kid with a dream; now I’m a kid with a plan.”
