Rachel Murphy was bullied in high school and dropped out. With no work history, she lacked the motivation and self-esteem to pursue her education/career goals.
But with the support of the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program, Rachel is on the path to reach the goals she set for herself. A recent graduate from Orchard View Adult Education, she earned her GED in 2017. Rachel has a strong desire to “pay it forward” and is now pursuing a degree in the helping profession.
She is a 2nd year student at Muskegon Community College (MCC). With her prerequisite courses almost completed, she will enter Grand Valley State University’s social work program in the fall and earn her BSW.
“Rachel is a determined student. She has shown a great work ethic by not only completing her GED but continuing on at MCC,” said MCC teacher Danielle Covert.
Rachel is employed part-time as a gymnastics coach while working her way through college. She also is a math tutor at MCC.
